Tyrsa's Button Up Clutch

By now, I pretty much use the same basic pattern when making most of my bags or pouches.  It's clean, it's easy and it looks like nice.  So, that being said, this clutch I made for a coworker for her birthday is no different.

The inside boasts the main compartment and and outer pocket much like the phone cozy and ID wallets I make.

The outside has a vintage button elastic closure.  This particular vintage button is from my grandmother's collection.  I can now say I am obsessed with vintage buttons.

I started out with the idea of making her a wristlet but somehow it became a clutch instead.  Turns out, the girl had been wanting a clutch so I must have known that unconsciously :D

(Special thanks to my friend Genevie for modeling the clutch)

Nautical Ruffled Tote

Every time I agree to make one of these bags,  I always procrastinate because of the amount of work it takes.  But every time I finish one, I am so proud of how it turns out and this nautical themed ruffled bag is no exception.  This was a custom request for a friend and she loves it!

To see the other ones I've made go here for the first one I made and here to see the cherry themed one.

To make your own, this is the tutorial I originally saw on Pinterest and based it on but tweaked,  Or if you would rather pay me to make you one, I will :)

Polka Dot and Chevron Clutch Purse

I found this gorgeous chevron fabric a couple of weeks ago in the remnants bin at Joann's and knew I had to have it as soon as I set my four eyes on it.  At the time, I knew I wanted to make a bag of some sort and had the perfect person in mind to make it for as a birthday present but I wasn't sure what.  Last week, I made this cherry gathered purse for another friend's birthday and so an idea started to form in my head.  And this is what I came up with:

It's a small clutch purse with a zipper closure and strap.  I know the style has been around but this is one of those projects that came out as I envisioned it without the help of pin or link I saved. I don't normally like to mix patterns but the tiny dots on the brown fabric was perfect with the chevron and didn't try to upstage it.  The tiny dots were enough to keep the brown from being boring.  The clutch is 11 inches wide on the bottom, 7 inches wide at top and 7.5 inches tall.

I used a matching teal fabric for the lining.  The teal also had a very subtle dot pattern and also worked beautifully with the overall scheme.

Sadly, because this is a gift, I can't keep it but I do hope my friend likes it.

Cherry Gathered Bag

I made this cherry gathered bag for a friend's birthday last week.  It was based on this one that I made last year.  She loves cherries and I already had the fabric so it worked out perfectly.  It's about 16 inches tall, 15 inches wide at the bottom and 10.5 inches at the top.  I winged it this time and didn't bother with the pattern like I did last time. As useful as they are, for some reason, I have an aversion to them sometimes.

Aaarrrrhhhh! Pirate Wallet

I have a habit of buying fabric and never getting around to using it and this piratey print I got at Joann's is no exception.  A while back, I was really into making these little card wallets (excuse the quality of the pictures--they were from before I learned how to take quality photos) and would pre-cut out all the pieces.   But then I would get distracted with another more fun project, and those cut pieces just sat in a drawer, forgotten.  So, as I was looking through my fabric stash for another project, I came across the pirate print and in true me form, I got distracted from the first project and decided to finally put together the wallet :)  The only thing I did differently is that I used fabric for the back pocket opposed to the vinyl I was using before.  I like the fabric pocket much better.

The back pocket.

Fancy Bow Clutch

I made this fancy bow clutch from this pretty awesome tutorial I found on Pinterest.  I already had this satiny blue fabric on hand and I'm pretty happy with how this turned out.  These were so easy to make that I made a few other variations.

Skull and Roses Messenger Bag and iPad Case Set

I really liked how the cupcake messenger bag I made for my now failed Craft Challenge came out so when I was asked to make one (along with an iPad case) for an order, I was excited.  The messenger bag is lined with a stiffer red fabric and interfacing to give it more stability.  Again, a front pocket was added for the smaller items.

This was my first time making an iPad case and I made it a little differently than I did with the Kindle cases I've made in the past.  For this one, I added an outside pocket and a zipper opposed to a foldover flap for closure. Also used felt to give it added padding to help protect the iPad.

A matching tissue holder is also shown in the picture above.

Ruffle Purse

I made this ruffle bag for my friend, Karey who requested it after seeing this purse on Pinterest.   I have to admit, this purse was a lot of work since I never read the directions thoroughly and just end up tackling the project head on after skimming the tutorial.  Of course, there is actually a lot more detailing than what I normally have patience for and I have to say, I am once again pleased with the outcome.  Enough that I'm willing to make another one or two as gifts.

#12 of the Pinterest Craft Challenge - clutch purse

I'm going to stop referring to days since I'm obviously behind and can't seem to catch up on my 30 day Craft Challenge due to work and other priorities that come up.  I'm still committed to doing 30 craft projects but until/unless I catch up, it's not likely it will be within the 30 days I had planned.  With that being said, here is #12: a clutch purse and the original inspiration.

Once again, as you can see, I did my own thing.  I added in an extra pocket and made my clutch more round. You would think I would have remembered just last week when I made this round zippered pouch that sewing round and round and I do not get along at the moment.  Definitely not perfectly round and definitely not perfect.  I can see all the flaws and I'm sure you can point out one or two to me.  However, once the challenge is over, I will be remaking another one more to my liking.  To think, this one was already my second attempt.  I really do like this and chances are, no one will notice the flaws anyway, but we are our own worst critic :)

Something pretty rad that I just noticed that was completely unplanned is that when the clutch is closed, the stripes seem to match up almost perfectly.

30 Day Pinterest Craft Challenge - Day 2 - Messenger Bag

I made this cupcake themed messenger bag yesterday afternoon for Day 2 of my self-imposed 30 Day Pinterest Craft Challenge.  It was inspired by this reversible messenger bag by Crazy Little Projects.  In true me fashion, these pins generally serve as inspiration before I end up changing it somewhat.  I had in mind my just-turned 8 year old niece when I came across the pin for the reversible bag.  I changed it up slightly by making it a larger bag and adding two front pockets and making the bag non-reversible.  I used some retired Robert Kaufman cupcake fabric and just brown and turquoise dot fabric for the lining.  I also used interfacing to give the bag some stability.  I am really pleased with how this bag turned out and I hope that Ali likes it too.  I definitely want to make one for me now!

Kawaii Strawberry Phone Wristlet

Here's an adorable (if I do say so myself) kawaii strawberry wristlet I made.  It has two compartments inside to hold your phone and your cash/plastic money with a snap button closure and ribbon to wear the wristlet.  I also used beads for the seed detailing on both sides.  I made this out of felt and it was entirely handstitched.  I liked it so much that I also made a monkey one but I don't have pics of that one yet :)

The above strawberry phone wristlet is available for purchase for $24 and is ready to be shipped.  Please send me an email to joyce [at]  asianinvasionsaloon [dot] com if you are interested or you can contact me through facebook.

Don't forget that I will be starting my 30 Day Pinterest Craft Challenge on Aug. 1st :)
